Here’s one Google Adwords campaign optimization tip to help you save money when you first create your Adwords campaigns:

Stop Your Competition From Clicking on Your Adwords Ads

The Adwords system has put measures in place to automatically detect irregular click patterns. For example, if your competitor maliciously clicks on your ads to try and ramp up your click costs, it’s pretty easy to detect especially if someone uses the same IP address.

However, no system is bullet-proof and if you want to make sure that your competitors don’t click on your ads then you can exclude them by using Google’s IP Exclusion tool.

Even if you’re not concerned about click fraud you can still exclude competitors from seeing your ads and copying what you’re doing.

You can block up to 100 IP’s per campaign, but keep in mind that you may exclude and IP that is a proxy for a lot of users.

In other words, you run the risk of excluding other people from seeing your ads and not just your competitors so you may lose out on potential traffic.

How can you determine which IP addresses you have to block?

That’s pretty easy to do. Just type into the Google search box your most popular keywords and take note and jot down your main competitors websites. And don’t just look at the Adwords advertisers, but also take note of your competitors in the organic listings.

You can just do a search on Google to find websites that will translate those URL’s (competitors website addresses) into the IP addresses you were looking for. Simply copy and paste those IP’s into Google’s IP Exclusions tool and you are done.
