Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - More and more people and businesses are turning to online marketing to get the word out on their products and services.
Two of the most popular types of online marketing methods are organic SEO and Pay Per Click (PPC).
Research statistics show that 85% of individuals using the Internet will use search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN to find what they are looking for.
A high percentage of these individuals will not go any further than the first page of results, therefore having your business’s website on the first page of these search engines is crucial to your success when opting for this type of online marketing.
Below you will find the advantages and disadvantages of both organic search engine optimization and PPC.
Pay Per Click (PPC)
PPC is basically where an advertiser pays every time a user clicks on their ad regardless if they make a sale or not.
Pay per click is not a difficult way of advertising as the advertiser simply chooses keywords related to their business or website and bids on each keyword.
Once the advertiser bids on keywords and creates an ad, their ad will then show up in the ‘sponsored link’ section of the search engine they are advertising with.
The advantage of using PPC as your method of advertising is that it is instant. You can begin receiving traffic to your ads within your first hour.
PPC also enables advertisers to test out different keywords and landing pages to see which works more effectively. If a certain keyword is not pulling in any results, the advertiser can simply drop the keyword and try a different one.
The downside to using PPC is that it can become quite costly if not done correctly. This is why it is so important to choose your keywords wisely and continue to experiment with different keywords until you find the keywords that convert to sales.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Search engine optimization is a very effective form of advertising for your business. Basically, you optimize your website to achieve high ranking in the search engines without paying for the placement.
The advantages of using SEO is that there are no costs per click. It is a free method of getting your website on the first page of search engines. Also, SEO offers you more credibility than PPC because your website is ranked high because of the quality of content on your website and effort you put in rather than paying for placement.
The disadvantage of using organic search engine optimization is that it can be very time consuming and there are no guaranteed results. You might or might not receive first page ranking.
It also requires a great deal of effort on your part optimizing your website so that it gets noticed by the search engines. Also, it could take some time before you
begin to benefit from this form of online marketing.
These are some things to consider when determining whether you should use organic Search engine optimization or PPC for your online marketing endeavors. Both are effective, you just have to decide which is one is the best solution for your marketing needs.
