Search Optimization - Owners of web sites have only one thing on their mind...and that is traffic.
The way to generate that traffic is by making use of search engine optimization, or SEO for short. The idea behind SEO is to get the highest possible ranking in the search engine results pages, called “SERP”.
So to do that, what’s important and what isn’t? Here is a bulleted list of do’s and don’ts for you to draw from.
1. DO have current relevant content. This is the text and material you put on your web pages. Each page should be centered on a keyword or phrase.
2. DO a good job with keyword selection. This is very important to a good search optimization campaign. Using good keywords (not overusing them) will help get you ranked higher in the SERPs as well. When choosing keywords for your campaign, try to put yourself in the searcher’s position and use words and/or phrases that will be used regularly to find your site.
3. Do seek out backlinks. The search engines look at how many other sites are linking back to yours. The sites that link back to your site have to be relevant to the same focus. The main idea here is relevancy. More relevancy means higher ranking in the SEs.
4. DO use articles and press releases to build search optimization and page rank. In the SERPs, you want to be in the top 10 results listed.
Why? Because those are the ones that people are going to look at first. Obviously those first 10 sites are going to be the most relevant, right? Need I say more?
5. DO use social networking and blogs to build SE ranking. The SEs love the blog sites as they are usually more current and relevant than static web pages. The result is a better rank when you use them.
• Don’t overuse your keywords. Typically, a density of about 3% is all that you need. So in a 500 word article, your keyword is mentioned approximately 15 times or less.
• Don’t use the same anchor text for backlinks. This looks like you just slammed your links all over the place in one massive posting. The SEs see this as “keyword SPAM” and will penalize your site for it.
• Don’t use FFA (Free For All) link directories. They do not work and they simply jam your link into as many places as possible without regard to relevancy.
• Don’t seek backlinks from sites that are not related to yours directly AND don’t link back to sits that are irrelevant to yours.
• Don’t mistake Myspace or Facebook friends for a business network. How many friends you have at the social sites is not an important factor. Nice, but not vital to SEO campaigns.
Using searh optimization to gain page rank and higher SE results is a good idea all around. If you follow these guidelines, you
